We were super excited to stay in this historic hotel and play blackjack in the casino. To our amazement, the room was lacking in temperature control. It was in the teens outside, so the heat ran constantly. We had to open the window to get relief. The paint was chipping in the room and on the doors. The blackjack table in the Franklin was busy, so conveniently the Silverado had several tables. We did not eat in the Franklin or Silverado. Quite a disappointment.
Great buffet @ Silverado. Did not try steaks @ Franklin. Both filled with Victorian stylings. Facilities are smoke free but smoking is allowed just outside of doors.... had to walk through smoky area to get into & out of buildings. Recommend walking down hill and riding trolley back up, but not a difficult climb unless you're not used to the elevation. Visited in October, area was busy, some shops closed for season or closed early. Was windy but sun was warm.
It was not a good stay. We had a portable heater for heat. Black mold in the bathroom. A spring coming thru the mattress on the bed. I had scratched my leg on the fist time getting into bed. The response we get after telling some is thank you for staying with us. We took pictures of our room. We will not recommend this place to anyone.
I was told so many positive things about the historic Franklin Hotel did I was really surprised how I felt when I left. My husband had a great time his anniversary was fantastic. Me on the other hand was left wanting. While we were gambling the only person that was able to get a drink was my husband the girls entirely ignored my existence when I ask for something I was looked at like I didn't belong there. I know I'm not the regular class of clientele that they have but I saved money up just to go there for our anniversary I expected to come home happy not feeling so wanting. There was an older guy that work the front doors though that I absolutely loved he made me feel like I did belong there he made me feel like I was important every time my husband and I were on a machine when we would go up he would come over to the machine and Brutus on and talk to me
My wife and I had the 10oz sirloin, and I honestly don't think I will ever have a steak that compares to this in my lifetime. Talk about melt in your mouth! And the sides, my God! The garden salad, the chili soup, the bread, the green beans and rice - absolutely amazing! And our server, Jason, was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We will be back very soon!
