The WORST KOA we've ever stayed at. We had a big group and we all felt like we had to walk on egg shells the whole time we were there. Arni and his wife (the owners) we're very disrespectful to our party. No fire wood fires allowed were very disappointing for all of our kids. They complained that we were being to noisy, but its very hard to stay completely quiet when your neighbor is right on top of you. Owner came to speak to us about having our lawn chairs up in a "public space" and almost ran my 4 year old son over with his golf cart. Not so public to us, I guess. We offered to leave and get a refund and in the words of the owners, " you can leave but we won't refund you're money." I wouldn't recommend staying at this place if you are traveling with a big party, and like to have a good time with your family and friends. We probably spent around $1200-$1500 to stay there and were treated wrongfully. We left during the day the whole 3 days we stayed there and still got treated like children.
We reserved a tent site with electric and water. The tent site was tidy and level, sheltered on two sides by the hills and a building. There was a picnic table and charcoal grill. Bathrooms met expectations and there were laundry facilities that were well maintained. There was a trolley that leaves every hour to take you to the main street in Deadwood. Overall, a good value for the money.
This is a beautiful and secluded KOA. I was there in early October and there weren't many people so it was incredibly quiet. The trees were changing color too. It was a very nice place to visit.
I stayed in Kabin 1. It was clean and the heater worked well. The restrooms were very clean and nice. This KOA didn't have a hair dryer or paper towels in the restroom. They may have had a hairdryer at the front desk. I didn't ask.
Because it's terraced into the mountain this campground is a bit unusual, but after we got over that initial shock we found it to be a great place. The people who run it are super friendly. The sites are fine. The utilities work well. The bathrooms/showers were great. And it has a great woodsy atmosphere. It may not be for everyone but we loved it & would return without hesitation. Oh yeah, it's also conveniently close to Deadwood but still in the woods
This campground was built on a very steep mountain which made reaching the site difficult. Also we had to have two other campers move their vehicles just to have room to back in. I have been driving truck for 47 years and can back a Semi Truck into some of the difficult spots. The width was just enough for the camper and slide outs (one side only). Narrow is an understatement. They advertise pool open. It was not. They also advertise office open until 9 PM. It closed at 6 PM. Laundry is locked up inside the office. You can see where many campers had bottomed out leaving the KOA because of the steep hills in this KOA
